LAND OF AMIDA painted on Wall No.6 of Kondo

World Heritage series,Horyu-ji Kondo Wall Paintings
(Feburuary 22,1995)

The Kondo was formerly decorated with mural paintings on its twelve walls.

The majority of the murals were unfortunately destroyed all but completely by casual fire in 1949. These paintings, comparable with those at Ajanta in India, were worldly famous masterpieces.

The damaged original paintings are now kept in the storage hall, and reproduced panel paintings are attached to the walls of the Kondo.
